Kia Shows Off Their First-Ever Production EV in Las Vegas

Kia has recently presented their first 100% electric production vehicle at the 2012 Consumer Electronics show in La Vegas, Nevada. They also previewed their all new, zero-emissions concept at the same time. Their production EV will be called the Kia Ray, while the zero-emissions concept is named the Kia Naimo. Both have been built using leading-edge lithium polymer battery packs. The battery packs on both the Ray and Naimo really set it apart from other electric vehicles in the industry today.

The Kia Ray will have a 50-kW electric motor along with the polymer battery pack, and can drive for up to 86 miles on one charge. What is more impressive, is that the EV can be charged using a 220V outlet , and only takes 25 minutes for a full charge! When you take a look at the facts, it certainly blows the competition out of the water.

The debut of the Kia Ray is very exciting, because it represents the South Korean's first-ever production 100% EV. We have also heard reports that  suggest consumers won't have long to wait for it to hit Kia dealership showrooms. For now, however, production for these vehicles remain limited and are currently being reserved for the South Korean government.

As for the Kia Naimo, it represents a lot more than a new, zero-emissions car. It features:

  • User Centered Driving (UCD) telematics - Which promises color night vision and a clearer, larger tough screen.
  • Media & entertainment
  • More connectivity features
